Where the Research Stands

HIGH-PRIORITY RESEARCH LEAD. Hilliard was allotted in the 1855 estate division to Susan Ann Chapman Taliaferro Read and George Read, and a sale is recorded in 1856. The Read/Reed family is associated with Chicot County, Arkansas, which makes Arkansas records a strong research path — not proof of travel. Record targets: Chicot County deed books, probate and estate records, tax lists, court and chancery records, recorded slave transactions and bills of sale, Reed family papers, plantation records, local newspapers, manuscript collections, the Arkansas State Archives, the FamilySearch catalog, and county-level microfilm.
