Privacy and living people
This archive documents families, which means it necessarily touches people who are still alive. The rule is simple: the dead are documented, the living are asked first.
Living people are private by default
A person recorded in this archive as living is not named publicly unless they have given consent to be named. Without consent, the archive still shows that the relationship exists — because removing the link would falsify the lineage — but the person appears as a private descendant.
Birth dates, addresses, contact details, employment, medical information, and images of living people are never published without explicit permission.
Consent can be withdrawn
Anyone who has consented to be named may withdraw that consent at any time by writing to the archive. Their name is removed from public view on the next publication pass, and the underlying relationship reverts to a private link.
Withdrawal does not erase the research record held privately by the archive, because genealogical integrity depends on continuity. It removes the public presentation of their identity.
Sensitive family matters
Adoption, paternity, marital history, and similar matters are published only where the person concerned has asked for them to be recorded, or where all parties are deceased and the matter is documented in public record.
Where the founder has chosen to publish such details about her own life, that is her consent to give and nobody else's.
What the site collects
Pages you read are served without advertising trackers or third-party profiling.
If you submit a lead, a correction, or a document, the archive stores what you send, along with any name and contact details you choose to provide, so that your contribution can be evaluated and credited.
Signed-in research accounts exist only for the internal Research Studio. They are not available to the public.
Documents and records
Original documents are held, not hosted. Records about deceased people that are already public — census pages, deeds, probate files — are reproduced in full. Modern records, and any record naming a living person, are never reproduced: the archive states the type of document, the issuing authority, and what it establishes, and holds the original privately.
No document about a living person is published, in any form, even where that person has consented to be named. The full records and documents policy sets out the three handling tiers.
Contributed material
Do not submit material about a living person who has not agreed to it. Do not submit medical, financial, or legal records concerning living people.
Contributions are reviewed before anything is published, and the archive may decline material it cannot verify or lawfully publish.
Requests for removal or correction
Descendants of any person in this archive — including descendants of people documented here as enslavers — may write to request a correction. Factual errors are corrected and logged publicly in the Research Ledger.
Documented historical conduct is not removed on request. The archive corrects what is wrong; it does not delete what is uncomfortable.
