WHAT WE NEED TO SEE: the original source behind the claim. ORIGINAL RECORD TARGETS: military pension file, service record, census enumerations, death certificate, marriage record, Freedmen's Bureau record, probate, church record, family Bible, and DNA evidence. TIMELINE, HOUSEHOLD AND NAME/LOCATION COMPARISON: does Thomas appear in Hilliard's 1870 household; what was his age; where was he born; who was his mother; do dates and places align; and are there several men named Hilliard Taliaferro? No parent-child relationship has been created and none will be until an original record is reviewed.
